Mrs. Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a Father's Day in 1909. She wanted a special day to honour her father, William Smart who had become a widower when his wife died in childbirth with their sixth child. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. He was born in June, so she chose to hold the Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.
In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson declared the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. Today it is a day not only to honor your father, but all men who act as father figures - stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers and so on.
Why do we have a fathers day it is a good question.
We have fathers day to celebrate out dad's being dad's. You start having fathers day when the first child/sister/brother being born. When the child is born the man becomes a dad to the young child.
have you thought all the things your dad has paid for in your lives dancin lessons, swimming lessons, kinder fee's, school fee's, dolls, toys, clothes and he earned the money at work then spend it on you! Well it's you turn to give a presents that you bought with your money to thank your dad for spending so many 1000 of dollors on you to be alive, health, pretty and looked after
Add to any gift a list of the reasons why you appreciate him. Check the link below for something I wrote for Father's Day in 2005 for Dear Abby.
