A census calculates the population of a country which can be used for many things, such as locating places to put public service facilities (schools, post offices, roads, libraries,etc.). In a census the citizen is asked questions about their jobs, income, and family members (children). This allows the government to see the average income of citizens, and predict the population of the future.
The purpose of a census is many fold:-
- As an historical record of the population of a country, how families are arranged, hosed and what occupations are being undertaken by those employed.
- As a means of underpinning decisions about where government resources will need to be spent in future.
- As a means of deciding how many elected representative an area should have.
Census data is merged with other data to compile a comprehensive picture regarding the state of a country as part of the census process.
Census data is invaluable to those wishing to build their family trees.

∙ 12y agoOne reason is to know how many people are in the U.S., but another reason is to redistrict the boundaries according to the population for the 438 electoral votes. This gives equal representation for the people. Also because there idiots!!! and its nun of your buissness or well here business so don't fill it in no matter what even though they will fine you.
