Like everything, paint looks darker while its wet. Its a bit like fabric, hair and pretty much everything else. As it dries it keeps getting lighter. Once the room is painted and dried, the paint continues to fade because of the light bleaching the colour.

watercolour paintings fade because the water in them never actually dries completely or the material/ paper may get hot and produce condensation causing the watercolours to evapourate, thus leaving you with a faded painting
