When a soldier is killed on the battle field, one of the tags is removed by another soldier to account for dead soldier. In order to keep the dead soldier from being separated from the remaining tag, the tag is placed inside the soldier's mouth with the groove placed on the lower teeth, and then the chin is kicked so that the tag is driven up into the soldier's palate.
