Chickenpox may start out seeming like a cold: You might have a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and a cough. But 1 to 2 days later, the rash begins, often in bunches of spots on the chest and face. From there it can spread out quickly over the entire body - sometimes the rash is even in a person's ears and mouth.

∙ 10y agoChickenpox is more likely in children because they haven't been infected previously. Prior to vaccination, 90% of adults had chickenpox in the past. Because you normally have lifelong immunity after chickenpox, this meant that adult infection was statistically unlikely.

∙ 10y agoBecause chickenpox is highly contagious, most people get it in childhood in countries that don't routinely vaccinate for chickenpox. By the time people in these countries reach adulthood, 90% have already gotten the disease and are no longer susceptible.
