Why do men call other men's boys son but don't call girls unrelated to them daughter?

The use of son in this case is meerly a term of trying to relate to the boy. It is not associating it with relations. If the man does not know the boys name and needs to address him, instead of hey you or boy, they say son. That is a mans way of trying to be nice to the kid.
