Aside from being pretty in pink, one of the flamingos' most famous characteristics is standing on one leg!
Nobody knows exactly why flamingos like standing on just one leg so much, but scientists have a couple of ideas. The most likely reason is that it helps the beautiful birds to stay warm and conserve body heat. Because they stand in water a lot of the time, flamingos are likely to lose body heat faster than those of us who don't spend a lot of time standing in water. Using just one leg lessens the amount of heat they lose to the cold water.
Some other ideas about why they stand on one leg include preventing tissue damage or germs that they might pick up from the cold water they stand in, and preventing their muscles from getting tired by using just one leg at a time!
This happens when one half of the brain sleeps.
Many birds will rest one leg by standing on the other one and tucking that leg up beneath their feathers. This is a common bird posture.
Because if they didn't, they would fall down.
Because flamingos have two legs, they obviously also have one leg.
Many birds, not just Flamingoes, do this.
It may be that they effectively sleep with one side of the brain (and body) at a time.
1. I believe its one FOOT
2. Why do you care?
3. Because of the polarity of magnetic influence of the world pulls them to one side, thus the need not to stand on the other leg.
I would like to know it also.
Their legs are long so they can stand in shallow water and eat fish.

A Flamingo stands on one leg
The behavior of a flamingo is very simple. They stand on one leg while they sleep and when another flamingo tries to hurt their baby, they will squawk and pick at that flamingo.
No one is really sure why flamingos stand on one leg. Scientist aren't even sure why flamingos stand on one leg. But one thing that has been proposed is that flamingos stand on one leg to relieve the pressure off the one side and res that side while the other side functions and controls the body. Then when that side has rested then they will alternate legs and do the same thing until they are fully rested and ready to go on about their business.
A flamingo only bends it's leg while standing still. To walk it simply walks like any other bird.
No, They only sit on their back legs they cannot stand.. Hope this is useful!!

•flamingos have long legs, they can wade into deeper water than other birds. Their webbed feet supports them on soft mud and allows them to swim faster.•There are many possible reason why flamingos stand or rest on one leg. It allows the leg and foot to dry and it also keeps the heat and energy inside their bodies so that they are able to stay warmer in cooler weather. When you're in the bathtub for a long time, your skin starts to wrinkle, and the same thing can happen to the flamingo feet.•
