Earthquakes occur when pressure builds up between 2 masses of rock in the earths crust, where there is a crack between them. Eventually the pressure is released and one piece of the rock slides upwards. This causes P waves and S waves, which shake the buildings etc.. on the earth's surface.
However, they can often be felt in other continents, depending on how bad the earthquake is. For example, the boxing day tsunami earthquake could be felt all over the world, but not as obviously as that in the country it occurred in.
The lithosphere is where earthquakes occur.
Yes they have, earthquakes occur occasionally even in Chicago.
Yes, tornadoes occur on every continent except Antarctica.
There were at least 13 minor earthquakes in or near Sydney in the last 10 years. The magnitude of these 13 earthquakes ranged from 1.6 to 2.5. Earthquakes can occur in almost every part of Australia but occur much less often than along tectonic plates north and east of Australia.
because there are some water through every world the world is broken up
They are most likely to occur at transform boundaries.
yes
Earthquakes occur at all plate boundaries.
On average, there are roughly 20,000 - 30,000 recorded earthquakes every year. The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year but many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes.
Antarctica is the quietest continent in terms of earthquakes. Earthquakes have occurred, but are infrequent. What is common on the continent are ice-quakes, which are not as 'moving' as earthquakes, but are frequent.
Earthquakes and volcanoes both occur in land and ocean. =)
Most earthquakes do occur on fault lines.
