a dog will smell your "area" because they want to know what gender you are or if you are a friend or foe. the reason they smell your "area' is because that is where the scent is (believe it or not) the strongest. if it is too awkward then have them smell your hand FIRST when they just meet you. and also they usually smell girls crotches when the girl is over 13 years or under 50 years. i don't know why.
