Why do Korea hope for the reunification of north and South Korea?

There are many reasons for this.
1. Both North and South Koreans are a same people as Koreans(like East & West Germany), and they are currently the only two countries in the world that are currently divided.
2. If war breaks out again, there is a high chance that much of the infrastructure and facilities will be damaged or destroyed, thus wasting all the effort made in the past 50+ years from one of the world's poorest countries to a economic powerhouse.
3. Currently huge amounts of money and manpower are being used to patrol the border, and if united, could be greatly reduced and be used for other purposes. Also, more investors would invest in Korea as risks would be greatly reduced.
4. The South has a powerful economy, while the North has quite a lot of important minerals and Natural Resources, in which combined could make an impressive synergy.
However, some are not supportive
1. After unification, South Korea would have to pour in billions and trillions of dollars to aid the North. Experts predict taxes will go up very high, and it will need some 30 times the amount West Germany poured into East Germany.

North invaded the South. Yes but, I can explain better!... So... At 4am the 25 of June, North Korea suddenly invaded the South! The South wasn't ready, so they send American Troops for help! After the 2 World War Japan was occupying Korea, and when Japan got "kicked off" buy the Americans, Korea was spilt into NORTH Korea and SOUTH Korea, by the 38th Parallel... :D I hope I helped I am studying it now too! the war was actually fought between the North and South Korea but about 16~19 countries around the world participated, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Greece, Netherlands, Turkey, Philippines, Thailand, United Kingdom, Belgium, etc...fought for SOUTH Korea, against.. the China and the Soviet Union (Russia) who fought for NORTH Korea (b/c theyre all communist countries who supported Nort Korea). The war broke out by the NORTH Koreans' sudden attack on the SOUTH Korea's capital, Seoul, on June 25th, 1950. Then the South Koreans asked the UN for aid, and those 16 to 19 countries sent their men (troops) to help. One interesting part of this war is that the UN and those countries that fought for South Korea, ESPECIALLY the United States, helped the South because they didnt like the communists and hated the fact that they the communists made North Korea to be part of them, so they didnt want the South (Korea) to become a communist country either. hope this helped! south and north Korea

I am Korean :) and I know a bit I think my mum told me that Acheson line was ruled out of the map(?) and it means if North Korea make a war, they will not care a lot. That time, China and Russia was same team with North Korea(But Not Now, THey are with South Korea a lot :)) And North Korea get helped( like a gun things) from Russia. They went to South Korea they almost got all the South Korea but the president called help to america. America sent people to korea and some australian too :) Also the UN's. North Korea almost got all the south korea but MacAthur had some plan called operation chromite. So they get back South Korea and almost got all the North Korea. and they nearly could be united but..... they called help to China America wanted to use atom bomb but america said NO North Korea had some rumour about that and they were scary. UN planned to act like they get out but they get back Seoul.
