Australia and the USA were both colonised by the English, therefore it is reasonable to expect that both countries would speak English. The US version of English has deviated away from the original language and pronunciation and spelling has changed substantially. At some point in US history, the US almost became a German speaking country (imagine how that might have changed 20th century history), but the English language has been declared the "State" language in both Australia and the USA's constitutions.
