Please accept my condolences. Being "dumped" isn't easy. Please know that when a person breaks up with another, the real reason is rarely gave. Usually, they just give you whatever reason they feel will get them out of the relationship as painlessly - or sometimes as hurtfully - as possible.
Sometimes both.
You may well have "proved" you know her - except that you actually don't, or you'd know that she was only giving you an excuse, not a reason.
Here's the reason, and it applies to all relationships that have ever existed: She just doesn't feel the same way about you as you do for her. She does not feel enough for you to make it worth her time and effort to patch things up.
Remember, people always do that which is least unpleasant for them. Going without you is easier for her then patching things up. Nothing you say to "prove" anything will change her mind, because that was a made up reason.
As to the brother, he's just looking out for his sister, and gently telling you to "move on". You should.
