The underground railroad was started to help black slaves from the southern get to Canada to gain their freedom. It was very dangerous and many people were killed, but because of the brave people who helped transport the slaves many were granted their freedom and a chance to start over in Canada.

∙ 13y agoThere was an Underground Railroad to help enslaved African Americans get to the North where they could be free. It was a system on abolitionists (people who were against slavery) who helped them hide and get to the North safely. And remember, the Underground Railroad wasn't underground and it wasn't a railroad either
