Trinidad and Tobago were ideal places for growing sugarcane. Neither Europeans nor American Indians could tolerate the work necessary for farming sugarcane. African farmers had been growing sugar cane for hundreds of years, knew all about its cultivation, and could withstand the heat of the tropical sun. Arab slavers captured African farmers and sold them into slavery. Landowners in Trinidad and Tobago bought the farmers made them slaves, and put them to work on sugar cane plantations. No one knows if they had been offered paying jobs if they would have been willing to immigrate from Africa to Trinidad to work in the sugar cane fields. Today Jamaicans come to Florida to work in the sugar cane fields.
The Africans come to Trinidad and Tobago to work as slaves in the sugar cane plantation because there was a shortage of labourers at this particular period of time.
