All of the other members of Andrew Jackson's family, male and female, had been killed in the Revolutionary War. Jackson bore scars from mistreatment in a POW camp. In the War of 1812 a number of Indian tribes has sided with the British. Jackson believed that any Indians who did not specifically side with and fight for the United States should move west of the Mississippi. Thus, Chief Junaluska's Cherokees should stay put. They fought for the United States against the British. Anyone connected to the Cherokee General Tsalie should be shot on the spot.
