The reason British invented baseball (Rounders the other name for it)... was inactive children in England at the time needed some mild exercise so the game was created as a result, historically its been a childrens game for who it was intended. Baseball is a popular sport in the United States. In fact, it is often called our national pastime. Baseball was invented in America in 1845. But even before that, as early as the 1600s, people in England played a similar game called rounders. The players on the other team tried to tag the runner by throwing the ball at him and hitting him with it! Ouch! This painful practice was called soaking the runner. Later, in the 1700s, men in the American colonies played their own version of rounders. They called it town ball. Any young colonist who came to town for a meeting was allowed to play. Sometimes each team had as many as 25 players! And all 25 had to come to bat before the other team got a chance to hit! As time went on, the popularity of town ball grew and grew . One man who loved to play the game was Alexander Cartwright. He used to play town ball every Sunday on a field in New York City. One Sunday in 1845, Cartwright came to the game very excited. It is a game allowing for allot of planning, a large amount of players for fans to root for, and along season giving it more public exposure. At one time, American sports were dominated by only two sports. American College Football, baseball, and one can throw in boxing, but really the former two caught the public's eye. Baseball even earned the name of "America's pastime". Youth s from an early age can play in Little League, school play and even street games. It became a game of legends, and superstars. In a true sense the game has so many options, percentages to estimate. The nine players on offense all have different roles to play. Features such as stealing bases and hitting home runs are exciting for fans. Also, attendance prices are less than in the NBA and NFL football, both of which did not reach the professional level until many years after professional baseball did.

It also has a unique feature, there is no time clock. This allows for teams that are losing a good chance of turning the tide of a game.

Many people find baseball "boring" because of its slow pace compared to other major sports. A fan who truly studies the game will see that is can be called a "Chess match". The moves a manger makes with his team place him in the role of a chess player in a manner of speaking. Currently in the US, the game has the added feature of having a wide range of ethnic players that play the game. It became popular in Hispanic nations and has reached to Japan.
