Aborigines first came to Australia from southeast Asia over 50,000 years ago as they are nomads. Hence, they move from region to region in search of sufficient food and water, and as not to overuse one area of land.

200 million years ago, all of the continents in the world were joined together, making one "super continent". Gradually over many years, the continents began to drift apart from one another, causing a vast amount of islands between the separating continents.

The aborigines, in their nomadic tracks, island hopped, (traveled from island to island) and soon they reached a new continent, AUSTRALIA.

So, one theory of why the aboriginal people migrated to Australia, was in their nomadic tracks, and could have even been "accidental".

Once they arrived in Australia they remained there primarily and spread out into the different regions of the continent. Similarly to modern

Many evolutionist believe that the Aborigines have been living in Australia for at least 40,000 years if not longer, and that they are the original Australians, not the white man. We know that to be true, just as we know the Native Americans were living on the North American continent before the white man. Like many peoples of the old world, overcrowding, disease, wars and other changes to where they originally lived may have been the reasons to move to a new land.

No written records exist of the time when and reason why Aborigines first came to Australia, so the answer to this question may only be gained through speculation. Anthropologists believe the Aborigines have always been a nomadic people, in that they would follow the seasons of foods available in particular areas, so it is speculated that the Aborigines first came to Australia in the way that different groups of people naturally moved around, seeking conditions that would advantage them.

It is a debatable question due to the fact that nobody seems to agree on when they actually arrived. Depending on who you choose to believe, the Aborigines arrived in Australia somewhere between 40,000 and 120,000 years ago. One argument runs that they virtually walked to Australia because of low sea levels during one of the many Ice Ages, alternatively, they island-hopped along the Indonesian archipelago and via New Guinea.

There were several reasons why the first settlers came to Australia.

1. Britain first claimed the eastern half of the continent in order to expand the British empire, and prevent the French from gaining a foothold in the Australian continent or in that part of the Pacific. Settlers needed to be here in order for England to properly stake its claim.

2. The continent had Natural Resources and raw materials which England wanted.

3. Primarily: to solve the problem of Britain's overcrowded prisons by establishing a new penal colony in a land which showed promise for eventually becoming self-supporting. The first settlers were British convicts and the officers and marines who guarded them.

4. Sir Joseph Banks, one of three botanists aboard James Cook's The Endeavour which charted the eastern coast of Australia in 1770, was a passionate advocate of British settlement and colonisation of the Australian continent. Cook claimed the eastern coast of Australia ("New South Wales") for Britain in 1770. It was largely upon his and Banks's recommendation that Australia ultimately was colonised.
