There were four main reasons:

  1. Treaty of Versailles- This peace agreement held Germany responsible for WW1.
  2. Land- Germany had to give back all of the land that they had won in WW1 and it was made into smaller countries. Germans did not like this because they did not want to live in other countries. This made them angry and want to start war. It was discussed between leaders, who agreed.
  3. Dictatorship- In places in Europe, there were people with great power such as Hitler. They made laws that were unfair and if anyone tried to disagree with them, they could be killed or put into prison.
  4. League of Nations- People were upset because the League of Nations did not keep their promise in making sure that there would be peace on Earth.
Other Factors and Comments
  • Germany was angry and upset. They wanted revenge.
  • Germany was not oh-so-upset. By October 1938 Germany's key grievances had more than be dealt with. The Nazi regime systematically stirred up a sense of grievance in Germany in order to use it to launch its own plan for boundless expansion.

The Second World War was started because of Hitler's policy of "living space", expansionist ideas and his hate of other European countries. He also wanted to bring Germany up to its pre-WW1 glory.
