Linus Torvalds wanted a Unix operating system for his new 80386 PC. Almost all versions of Unix cost several thousand dollars, and only a couple could really use the features of the 80386 processor. So he decided to write his own.

Linux is a kernel.A while ago a project known as GNU was started by Richard Stallman as a plan to get the word out about FOSS ( Free and open-source software) He wanted to make an OS to do this, but he needed a kernel to run his software on. Linus Torvalds developed that kernel it then became very popular and thousands of users contributed. GNU and Linux were then merged to make GNU/Linux as an operating system. But as many people knew more about Linux rather than GNU most people just call it Linux rather than GNU/linux. After this was all done all the distros started coming out such as Slackware and many more after that.

Tordvalds is one out of greatest man on the Earth.

Linus Torvalds wrote Linux for his Masters Degree in Computer Science.
