When House found the note in Kutners room, it stated he had been secretly gay a long time, and his main secret love was House. He knew he would be the but of all the jokes and barbs the rest of his career if he came out, because House would reject him, he feared. He was losing control of his ability to conceal his feelings. He also had some latent anger psychologically buried because he knew House would remain in love with His mommy figure, his boss. This was all causing him tremendous emotional/phsychological pain. That is why he left the note where House would find it, along with the telling photo. He subconciously thought House was smart enough to figure out he was actually just flipping out from stress, and did not want to put his Families through his breakdown. He also wrongly assumed House was stronger than he was.

He really just needed a good Sabbatical and some tranxenes 25 milligrams in the mornings, and dalmane 25 milligrams nightly until he saw he could fall apart and still be loved, and not to take life so serious, since his parents killer was now dead, the medical community would go on without him, and he would get to see his birth parents again in good time. He came to this conclusion on a beach in Florida while taking the family to Disney world, when he drank his first pitcher of coors light with the visiting House, who came to check up on him while on a forced vaca by Cutty.

While the Family went on kiddie rides, House stole him away for the afternoon. After they had both drank a beer and a half, House asked with his bad breath if Kutner still desired to feel him up. Kutner with more than a little disgust replied emphatically "No", to which they both almost busted a gut laughing hysterically on the beach.

They both then watched the most beautiful sunrise, and contemplated God together as the sun set on that episode.

(((He had the best sex of his life that night with his wife))).

After awhile of this, This...... Sabbatical, he found he had a second wind for medicine in his own little practice of choice, which he received a large grant for by the obama administration.

Turns out the recussetation really worked, and his death was a dream scene.

He will be back for the House reunion. (-:(-:

Everyone is wondering why Kutner died on House last night. Everyone knew that the show needed something drastic in order to bring the show to the attention of the world again, and we all knew that one of the main characters was going to die, but why was it Kutner? I might have the answer to that, thanks to a little internet-digger of a best friend (thanks Danni!) In an interview with the Huffington Post, it's revealed that Kal Penn is leaves House so that he can work in the White House!

Kal Penn, the man portraying as Kutner in House, got a new job working at the White House, and for that reason he asked if he could leave the show. In order for his work to be completed on House, they thought it would be best if he was just dead.

The above is why in the real world reason why the character Kutner was written out. But below is a UNreasonable motivation for the Character to do what he did.

The season of House MD started with a large group of candidates which grew smaller and smaller. In each episode few doctors were fired. In the second last episode before Kutner killed himself House was told he could only hire two doctors, a fact that he publicized widely by asking various colleagues who should he fire and who he should hire. He even asked Cameron in front of Taub.

In the episode before Kutner died, Taub was "fired" and was trying throughout the episode to prove himself worthy of the job, but fell short. In the final scene he stole the credit for Kutner's diagnosis and saved his job.

At that point Kutner then knew for certain that Taub would not last long as there were still three candidates, Taub, Kutner and Hadley (aka Thirteen), but only two spots.

The episode in which Kutner killed himself the patient (Meatloaf) was presented the option of killing himself so his wife could get his Liver and she could live. After Meatloaf was cured and told he would live a long life Meatloaf still insisted he would walk out the door and commit suicide as a sacrifice so his wife could live.

This is dead obvious now, the only other suicide mentioned during the episode Kutner dies is motivated by sacrifice. It shows that Kutner committed suicide so that Taub could get the job. Taub had a wife to take care of. Hadley and Foreman were a couple and if Hadley got fired it could feasibly strain the relationship. Kutner's choice of self sacrifice is deluded and wrong but it was motivated by putting others' needs and lives above his own unattached life.

Taub avoided any talk of Kutner after the death. He tried to bury himself in work but in the final scene of that episode he broke down in tears. He knew the gift he had been given, and was guilt ridden.

^this answer above about Kutner's reasons is utter bull. If he really wanted to sacrifice himself for Taub, he'd of just quit. Not killed himself. Also, this previous poster must not have been paying attention AT ALL. They stopped competing for spots after Amber was fired; their jobs were solid. Taub only had instability in his job in the previous episode because he quit, and when he asked to be rehired House played the usual House games to make Taub prove his loyalties. When Taub took credit for Kutner's idea in the end, House then let Kutner know for certain Taub had his job back. So no, Kutner did not commit suicide for any of the above ridiculous reasons.
