He 'came back' (was resurrected) to fulfill prophecy and continue to do God's will.

History:

Mankind was created to live forever on earth.(Genesis 2:15-17). Adam lost life for us.

God sent a redeemer...a savior...to rescue us from sin and death. (Genesis 3:15), (1 Timothy 2:5&6)

*Adam was a perfect man(Genesis 1:31), son of God (Luke 3:38), who turned away from God, thus becoming sinful(Genesis 3:3&6). He was also the 'father' of everyone on earth, so his sin brought sickness and death to ALL his descendants (us).(Romans 5:12)

*Jesus was a perfect man(Hebrews 4:14&15), son of God (Matthew 16:16),who remained FAITHFUL to God, remaining perfect. He REPLACED Adam as 'father' of humanity, (1 Corinthians 15:45&47)and by exercising faith in HIM as God's son and our savior,(John 6:29) we can gain back everlasting life. (John 17:3), (John 3:16)

Jesus died as a 'corresponding ransom' for Adam.

After he'd offered his perfect life to God, as a sacrifice for us, his resurrection showed that God can overcome even death(Acts 13:32&33), and that there will be a resurrection of MANY MANY people after his judgment period. (Acts 17:31NAS) " . .because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.." (Acts 24:15)(John 5:28+29)

Because of his faithfulness to God his father(John 20:17), Jesus is now King in God's Kingdom.(Luke 1:32&33)(John 18:36)

At the time of the resurrection there was no Easter Day. But Jesus fulfilled vital prophecies which stated that He would be killed, would rest in the grave and then rise on the third day after His crucifixion. Some feel that He died on Friday afternoon, just in time to be an example for observing the Sabbath rest law, and then rising the morning after the end of Sabbath, which technically ends on Saturday at sundown. This makes perfect sense as Jesus always lived His earthly life as an example for how we should live ours.

(Jewish Sabbath-Friday sundown to Saturday sundown)

Jesus rose from the dead to show He was not an ordinary human, but divine. He had triumphed over the grave for all who would accept Him as Messiah and Saviour.
