There was a case in South Africa in 1893 about an Indian merchant who was involved in a civil suit.Gandhi who was born to vaishya [merchant class] and had studied law. Therefore his uncles sent him to south Africa to fight for the case . Though he lost it , he stayed there protesting about the treatment given to Indians.
