The Nazis needed a place to "dispose" of the bodies. There was not quite enough room for 6 million bodies. It was also a tactic to lessen the Jews called "dehumanization." Other Jews in the camp were forced to put the bodies in the furnaces shortly after they were gassed by a chemical called zyclon-b, a more "sufficient" way of killing the Jewish people instead of shooting them in their heads.
