∙ 10y agoThere would be no reason to use tampons when pregnant given as women do not menstruate while pregnant - using tampons when not menstruating poses significantly higher risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) as without sufficient blood flow tampons will absorb more vaginal fluids thus drying out vaginal tissues, this causes ulceration that gives TSST-1 toxins a more direct route into the bloodstream thus higher risk of TSS.
Pregnant women are also often at higher risk of vaginal infections such as Bacterial Vaginosis or yeast infections - tampons are a major contributing factor to these infections so can cause or worsen these infections. In pregnant women these type of infections are even harder to treat, thus these infections should be avoided.
