Why can't you send picture messages on the iphone?
\nMMS (picture, sound and video messaging) is currently (March 2008) unsupported on the iPhone, although the capability is there and could (in theory) be introduced in a later… software upgrade.
You can send a picture message on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS but they must be on the latest firmware. However you can't send picture messages on the original iPhone even if you …have upgraded to the new firmware. The 3GS can send MMS with video attachments, audio attachments and picture attachments. The 3G can send audio and picture.

There is a free app in iTunes from Hook Mobile that allows you to send a picture message. Once you sign up whoever you are sending a message to will have to accept the message… and then you are good to go. It actually works quite well it is just not part of the text message app like it is on every other phone.
I have downloaded the 3.1.2 software on my original iPhone but my iPhone doesn't give me the option to send picture messages why?
unfortunately original iphones cannot send or receive picture texts but their is a website where you can veiw picture texts sent to your phone, though not sure what it is, or …you can just get a new iPhone 3g or 3gs
You can send a picture message to any phone by pressing the round button with a camera icon located to the left of the text box and then either taking a photo or finding one y…ou saved on your phone already. You can also copy and paste a picture into the text field of your message. Press Send when every picture you want to send is in the text field. You have to upgrade to text plus silver in order to send and receive picture messages.
You will need to check your network settings and MMS settings to ensure both are set correctly. If you are unsure, ask your network provider to send the settings to your phone…. The settings may arrive in the form of a message, which should be opened, stored and not deleted. You should also check the plan you are on to ensure that you can send data messages and multimedia messages. Again you may need to check with your network provider. If you want to send your pictures by email, you should check that your email settings are also configured correctly on your handset.

Touch the message tab, touch the new message button in the top right hand corner, input the receving number, then touch the clear space above the keyboard, type your message t…hen press send.
You can get them through email or messaging you go to the photo app and click on the button that has a box an arrow on it and click on one of the options.
You can attach a photo, video, or gif to a message using the round button with a camera icon (located to the left of the text box in Messages). You can also do this using copy… and paste. If you are able to iMessage, you can also send contacts and interactive addresses in Maps using the share buttons located in the Phone, Contacts, and Maps apps.
