Scotch eggs
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 cup soft breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
500g sausage meat
4 eggs hard-boiled
1 cup dry breadcrumbs
Method:
Mix the breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, curry powder and sausage meat together. Divide into four. Pack each quarter firmly around a hard-boiled egg, using wet hands. Roll in the dry breadcrumbs. Microwave on High (100% power) for 1 minute, turn and microwave for a further 1 minute.
Because originally it was scotch beef used to wrap around the egg. It was a creation of the English firm, Fortnum and Masons in 1851.
To justify the word 'egg' in the name 'scotch egg'.
