They are a technology that, it is hoped, will be able to help increase mileage of auto's in use today. They are capable of slightly better mileage then a comparable auto of the same size. The best feature is the awesome feeling of owning a new technology. They have better pickup then what I would have expected. They got worse mileage then I expected (I got about 41 mpg hwy in a Pruis). I recently rented an Aveo that received he same mileage and had far less electronics. That would seem to be a far more environmentally friendly car then a hybrid.
