People should not marry very close relatives due to genetic reasons. If this practice is repeated many times in the same family, genetic diseases can be concentrated and undesirable recessive traits strengthened.

∙ 10y agoThe concern with cousin marriage is the same as the concern with marriage of siblings - that the children of such a marriage may be more likely to inherit a genetic disease. As a practical matter, however, the risk in a marriage between first cousins is only very slightly higher than for "unrelated" parents, and for marriage between more distant cousins it is negligible.
Many jurisdictions do permit the marriage of first cousins, and few if any forbid marriage between more distant cousins. In fact many people marry and only later, or perhaps never, do they find out that they are third or fourth cousins to each other.
