Why does your 1996 dodge caravan make a clicking noise when you turn the key and it wont start and the battery goes dead?

I turned off the AC panel, turned the key counterclockwise, set it back to off, then back to on and then it started back up. I took a few seconds in between each turn of the key. Hope this works

I would suspect the battery has been discharged, is defective, or you have loose or corroded battery terminals. Remove and clean the terminals and if that does not solve the problem charge the battery with a battery charger. If it will not take a charge then replace the battery.

The clicking noise is most likely relay chatter. If you turn the key and hear a clicking noise and the engine does not crank, this usually a sign of a low battery (or a short). Then lift off the top half of the steering column. Inspect the wiring and try to tighten any loose connections. Make sure the pos. & neg. battery leads are in good order (especially the neg. lead.)

That's your silanoid.. if you follow the + battery wire it leads you there, a lot of newer cars have it located inside the starter.. but that is usually a sign you need more power, try chargeing the battery or jumping starting it.. also make sure your cables are hooked to the battery tightly and the battery nipples and the termanals that hook 2 them are clean and shiny where they touch together. The clicking noise could also be coming from your exhaust system. Loose clamps or a hole in your system could be causing the noise. You may have to repair or replace your exhaust system. You can get advice on the same from magnaflow exhaust systems.
