All of whom were Roman senators angered by Caesars policies. Marcus Tullius Cicero was uninformed of the plot, but commented on it with favor. he did however have criticisms, especially on their failure to assassinate Mark Antony as well.

Cassius was the effective leader, but Brutus had an important voice in the direction of their conspiracy. Possibly this divided leadership was what led to their downfall. See also Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

The main leader of the conspiracy to kill Julius Caesar was Brutus. Caesar was surely shocked to see Brutus, his friend raise a knife against him. Caesar had been fair and forgiving of Brutus, as for a time Brutus was married to the Roman Republic. He saw Caesar as a threat to a hoped for return of the republic.
