Bahá'u'lláh was born on November 12, 1817, in Tehran, the capital city of Persia, in present-day Iran. The Bahá'í Faith is based on the writings of Baha'u'llah, which in Persian means "The Glory of God" (His given name was Mirza Hussayn Ali). The forerunner of Baha'u'llah was The Bab, which means The Gate, The Bab brought His own religion: the Babi Faith, the purpose of which was to prepare people for the coming of Baha'u'llah, much like John the baptist prepared the people for the coming of Christ.

Two founders are usually associated with the Bahá'í Faith: the Báb, and Bahá'u'lláh. The Báb was born in 1819, and was executed in 1850. Bahá'u'lláh was born in 1817, and died from natural causes in 1892.

ANSWER 2:

The prophet founder of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah ("Glory of God") spent forty years as a prisoner of the Ottomans because of His teachings and claim to be THE Manifestation of God promised in all Scriptures. He died in 1892 near the prison city of Akka, Israel, where He'd been an exiled prisoner of the Ottoman Turks.

So as not to cause confusion, the Bab ("the Gate") founded the Babi religion in Persia, where He claimed (similar to John the Baptist of Christianity) to be preparing the people for the imminent appearance of the "Promised One of the Ages." He was martyred in 1850. The Bab is NOT a co-founder of the Baha'i Faith but was its precursor.
