Urea was first discovered in urine in 1727 by the Dutch scientist Herman Boerhaave, though this discovery is often attributed to the French chemist Hilaire Rouelle.[3] In 1828, the German chemist Friedrich Wöhler obtained urea by treating silver isocyanate with ammonium chloride.[4][5]AgNCO + NH4Cl → (NH2)2CO + AgCl

In 1828 Friedrich Wöhler made urea(diaminomethanal, (NH2)2CO) by treating

silver isocyanate (AgNCO) with ammonium chloride (NH4Cl).

AgNCO + NH4Cl → (NH2)2CO + AgCl

(Urea was discovered in 1773 by Hilaire Rouelle).
