Sir John Major was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1995.

Sir John Major was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1990 November 28 to 1997 May 2. Major first became prime minister when rising dissent within the Conservative party caused Michael Heseltine to challenge Margaret Thatcher for the leadership. As a result, Major became the leader of the Conservative Party and thus prime minister. Major's role as prime minister saw him lead negotiations in the formation of the EU, as well as participating in the Gulf War and the crisis in Serbia. However, the public's continued disenchantment with the Conservative Party after 17 years led to a large victory for Labour in the 1997 elections. Major would continue on as Leader of the Opposition for a few months before resigning.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland contains England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, which do not have separate prime ministers.

Tony Blair was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2005.

Anthony Charles Lynton Blair was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 May 2 to 2007 June 27. He became the leader of the Labour Party on 1994 July 21, and served as Leader of the Opposition until he became prime minister. Blair led the party away from traditional socialism, towards a 'new capitalism'. Blair resigned in 2007 due to low approval ratings, in part due to the Iraq War and resulting terrorist attacks on London.

Margaret Hilda Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1985 under the reign of Elizabeth II. Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 May 4 to 1990 November 28.

During 1985 she forced the end of the miner's strike in March, which effectively was the beginning of the end of the British coal industry, and also refused to increase Britain's overseas aid contribution to Ethiopia during the catastrophic Ethiopian Famine. For this she was berated by the rock star fundraiser Bob Geldof live on TV during a music awards ceremony.

She also signed the Anglo-Irish Agreement this year with the then Irish PM Dr. Garrett FitzGerald, which enabled IRA terrorist suspects to be extradited to the UK for trial from the Irish Republic. She also refused to place economic sanctions on apartheid South Africa, along with the US Government of Ronald Reagan- the only two governments in the world not to boycott apartheid.

Margaret Thatcher was originally a research chemist before entering politics. She was elected as an MP in 1959, and became Secretary of State for Education and Science in 1970. She would challenge for leadership of the Conservatives in 1975 and win it becoming the Leader of Opposition. After bringing down the Labour party in a vote of non-confidence in 1979, she would lead the Conservatives to a majority in parliament.

As Prime Minister, Thatcher led the country through the recession of the early 80's, lowering taxes and reducing spending. She crushed the power of the unions and helped privatize several of the nation's industries including coal mining, gas, water, and electricity. In foreign affairs, she presided over the Falklands War, the bombing of Libya, and the beginning of Glastnost. She argued against the formation of the EU, and argued for the independence of Croatia and Slovenia during the Yugoslavian war.

Rising dissent within the Conservative party caused Michael Heseltine to challenge Margaret Thatcher for the leadership. Although Thatcher retained a majority of votes in the first ballot, the split in the party was evident enough to force her to resign. She would later become a Baroness in 1992.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland contains England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, which do not have separate prime ministers.
