John Long Routt (born April 25, 1826 in Eddyville, Kentucky; died August 13, 1907 in Denver, Colorado), the first Governor of Colorado, served between August 1, 1876 and January 14, 1879. Following the end of Routt's term as Governor, Frederick Walter Pitkin (born August 31, 1837 in Manchester, Connecticut; died December 18, 1886 in Denver, Colorado) became the second Governor of Colorado, serving between January 14, 1879 and January 9, 1883.
