Notable US leaders who fought in the war were Theodore Roosevelt (a colonel of volunteers) and his superior, Leonard Wood, later Governor-General of the US territory of the Philippines.
The Rough Riders. Theodore Roosevelt put them together and they fought in the Spanish-American war besides the Regular Army. Admiral George Dewey had the Pacific Fleet at Manila Bay.
