Zeus created the first woman, Pandora, to get back at Prometheus for betraying him. Pandora married Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus, and later opened a box given to her by Zeus. This released all of the evils that are now known to man, thus causing misery to Prometheus' creation.
Her job was not really to make friends. Zeus made Hephaestus create her out of clay and sent her to punish Prometheus with the things in her box. Prometheus felt there was something fishy about this, but his brother Epimetheus married Pandora. They had one daughter Pyrrha. Those were probably her only friends.
