Woodrow Wilson was a smart fellow and hegraduated from Princeton right before he became president. He had 1 wife, but she died. Then he re-married a few months after the death. He was nice and steady when near people he knew, but scared and secretive when he was with people that he didn't know. He had three daughters and loved them dearly. That is all I know about Woodrow Wilson...if you know more please feel free to add on to this answer.

To answer the question if President Wilson was indeed a good leader we must first explore the definition of what is a leader? The military defines this as an individual who has the ability to influence others to accomplish a goal for the better good of the unit. It also describes the qualities a leader needs to encompass such as respect, selfless service, loyalty and duty. As I explored the traits of Woodrow Wilson, I have to unreservedly state that he indeed was a good leader.

Wilson's life created the man long before his Presidency. An intellect and a man of religious values, it appears that he was more prepared to handle the domestic rather than the international issues that arouse during his presidency. I do not believe that anyone can doubt he had a desire to create policy that stood for equality among the common American.

Early in his first term, Wilson set his sights toward reformation against trustees, banks and tariffs. As any good leader would, Wilson took the accomplishment of these goals in his own hands. Addressing Congress and moved by Wilson's aggressive leadership, the House swiftly passed the Underwood Tariff Bill, which provided for a substantial reduction of rates. In addition, Wilson achieved The Federal Reserve Act. This red-letter achievement carried the nation with flying banners through the financial crises of the First World War of 1914-1918.

It appeared that Wilson was a refreshing change of pace after Taft and Roosevelt. However, it wasn't long until his President hat of domestic policy was replaced with the Commander in Chief hat of waging war internationally. A peace-loving President, it was evident at first that Wilson had no stomach for leading a disunited nation into war. He well remembered the mistake in 1812 of his fellow Princetonian, James Madison.

For those who question his leadership ability it is during the infancy of World War I that they will surely turn to in order to prove their point. In a society that has seen great leaders such as Roosevelt, Regan, MacArthur and countless others, the soft stance that Wilson took initially could be seen as a weakness. There is no doubt that Wilson hoped a series of increasingly strong notes would bring the German warlords sharply to book. There are even stories that Wilson was so worried about being a lame duck president in a time of great international tensions that he drew up a plan that if elected for a second term of Presidency, he would appointed Hughes secretary of state. After which Wilson and the vice president would resign, and Hughes would thus succeed immediately to the presidency.

Weather these stories are true is uncertain. However, what is beyond doubt is the outcome of his decision to have America join its allies in a war with Germany - Victory. What many may not understand is the division that was within the United States on such a decision. There is no doubt that the United Stated wanted to remain neutral. War is an ugly thing and Wilson knew this. He stated in his war message "It is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war." In addition to the division within the states was a potential war with Mexico.

The fact is that the decision of war is one that will always be met with scrutiny. There is no doubt that Wilson had mixed emotions in his final decision and prolonged this decision as long as possible. As a Soldier I would question a President who did not weight other options and instead carelessly placed the lives of America citizens in harm's way. But what shows Wilson to be a true leader is his ability to influence the nation to embrace his decision and accomplish the goal of German defeat for the better good of the nation.
