General Isaac Brock defeated the American invasion of Canada during the War of 1812, and then took the war into US soil. This ruined US plans for the defeat and take over of Canada and handed the British the key action for the rest of the war. Brock's success was based on his foresight in preparing in advance for what he believed would be an inevitable attack on Canada by USA; he and his forces were therefore ready when the War of 1812 began.
