Problems involving the humerus, ie the bone of the upper arm, are diagnosed and treated by orthopedic surgeons. An orthopedist is a medical doctor (MD) trained in the care of the entire musculoskeletal system. Specifically, an orthopedist with advanced fellowship training in problems of the upper limb may care for more difficult conditions involving the humerus. Other medical doctors, such as family medicine physicians, may diagnose upper limb injuries but surgical care is still the job of the orthopedic surgeon.
