Does Saint Lucia trade with Canada?

Yes, St. Lucia trades with Canada. There is a trade arrangement between Canada and the Caribbean Community (for trade in goods) which benefits the wider CARICOM region in accessing the Canadian market almost entirely duty free. Therefore almost (if not all) all merchandise imports from St. Imports enter Canada duty free. Actually, within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), St. Lucia imports account for about 60% of total imports from Canada. On the export side, total exports as percentage of total trade is less than 1% (showing the smallness in size and productive capacity of the small island states of the Caribbean). Major Canadian imports to St. Lucia mainly compose of agricultural products like fruits (including grapes, melons, pineapples, apples etc), vegetables (including cauliflower, tomatoes, cabbages, carrots, mushroom, potatoes and other potatoes), sweet biscuits; waffles and wafers and meat of swine products and other non-alcoholic beverages. Non agricultural products like used pneumatic tyres of rubber, new stamps, stamp impressed paper, cheque forms and articles of jewellery saw surges in import values whilst emerging products like lubricating oils seem to have the potential of growing in value. This information relates to trade between St. Lucia and Canada for 2005 to 2007. Major exports from St. Lucia to Canada include bananas; including plantains, fresh or dried, other fruits including golden apple, passion fruit, breadfruit etc Canadian imports to St. Lucia have been growing since 2005 growing by 60% between 2005 and 2006 (EC$ 117m to EC$187m) before falling by 6% (EC$ 187m to 176m) between 2006 and 2007.
