There is no definite way to answer this question. There have been many interpretations of Christ throughout the history of art. Some even have theorized that the first images of Christ were based on previous images of Zeus as there are some similarities. This may also have been reasons to introduce the new faith to non-Christians in this manner. They were known as "Pantocrator" or "judge". Some are as early as the 6th century. However, artists of this time did not sign their work or given any credit as they were seen as merely artisans or workmen.
Early imagery of Christ often used images of Jonah, as he was seen as a precursor to Christ having been trapped in the large fish for 3 days. Early depictions of Christ were also created during the latter part of the Roman Empire and usually as sculpture. The sarcophagus of Junius Bassus has an image of Christ as a young Apollo figure.
Answer The early Christians focussed on the risen Christ; it was not until sometime in the Middle Ages (around 800AD) that the first images of the crucified Christ were done. These were mostly the work of monks, but there is no record as to who was the first person to make illustrations of the crucifixion. Even then, it was common to potray Christ with a royal crown on His head, or dressed in priestly robes.
