The rights on Watson's material - the publicity - is in the hands of his three childen. They inherited their father's company Virjon, LLC. In the beginning of the nineties, Johnny "Guitar" Watson went to Frank Zappa for advice on how to buy back his own music from the record companies (as Zappa had done before). Watson repurchased all his music from 1976 on. "I own my own music!", he told me.
It would have been a hell of a job to buy back older recordings, while Watson worked with tens of companies in the years before he started with DJM in 1976.
His daughter Virginia controls the musical legacy and licensed it to Shout! Factory. This record company re-released all albums from 1976 on, adding unreleased songs. While Virginia Watson and Shout! Factory did a good job, they could have done more. At least five master tapes - unfinished when John died - are hidden by well known people. Fourteen years after his death the tapes should have been recovered and published.

K.K. Slider owns the country guitar. Somehow, Sahara ended up with the country guitar. You have to give the country guitar back to K.K., who is the rightful owner.
