He didn't have a twin. He had an elder half-brother Sydney, to whom he was closely attached all his life.

Unknown to him, he also had a younger half-brother, Wheeler Dryden, who was working in India when the Chaplin films started to appear. Wheeler realised that this filmstar was his brother, and wrote to him at the studio, but his letter was binned, along with heaps of crank-mail.

He tried again, this time writing to Chaplin's colleague and close friend Edna Purviance. Edna had a feeling that he was genuine and got Charlie to investigate. Charlie was very interested when he found out about Wheeler, and gave him a job in the studio.

Not twin, but half-brother.

He was called Wheeler Dryden, and he was living in India when he realized that this new international (because silent) filmstar was his brother.

He wrote to him at the studio, but the secretaries thought it was just another begging letter and binned it.

He tried again, this time writing to Edna Purviance, a close colleague and lover of Chaplin. She had a feeling it was genuine, and suggested that Charlie should investigate.

Charlie discovered that the story was true, and was most interested in meeting the brother he had never heard of. He gave him a job in the studio, and an acting part in Limelight.

Wheeler Dryden died in 1957.
