Currently no one is holding the post of Deputy Prime Minister of India,

This post is not constitutional though one can be appointed if a proper command over the government is required in times of need.Though he holds no key importance and acts as a PM in the absence of the latter,due to any reasons. The Prime Minister is the supreme of the government.

The Indian Constitution do not recognise any post like Deputy Chief Minister or Deputy Prime Minister. But still there were Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers. They are as good as Cabinet Ministers,but with glorified designation. When Constitution itself not contained any provision it may not desirable to have such posts. However in peculiar Indian political circumstances and needs Governments at Union and States level creating such positions to balance political needs.
