Female GSD's have more attitude to them and is very much a family dog. They are more stubborn and have aggression problems before/after they go into heat.

Male GSD's "attach" themselves to one person who they will stalk. As long as you get them neutered from a Young age, you shouldn't have many problems.

No, a well trained German Shepherd is not aggressive to its family. Both genders are protective of the family home, and I would say an uneutered male would be more aggressive to an outsider to a female although it depends on the breed quality and personality of the dog itself. A bad bred German Shepherd would be more aggressive than a well bred one.

Going to get a purebred German Shepherd is male or female better guard dog but still loyal to owners and playful?

A male will be a better guard dog (hince, they are used as police dogs because they are so aggressive. You can train them to be aggressive or train them to be friendly). But, if you have children, a female is the better bet. Becasue of their "motherly instinct", female will protect the children very well. A male will probably be more playful. But whatever you choose, they will both be loyal to their owner. I hope you enjoy you German Shepherd puppy. =)
