∙ 14y agoThere is no US Secretary of State for Defense. There is a US Secretary of State. There is a US Secretary of Defense. The two have different jobs. The Secretary of Defense is over the Armed Forces. In the United States, the Armed Forces are under civilian control. This differs from many other nations. The Secretary of State is the most important member of the cabinet. She is in charge of Foreign Affairs and oversees the embassies. In internal affairs, she is also theoretically the keeper of the constitution and the laws. Every few years, the Secretary of State proposes a new law code to congress for its approval. This code organizes the nation's laws and gets rid of the contradictions.
