Are you serious? Marines vs Green Beret even if you said marine recon that would still be a silly question. Now in todays military the marines have there own special forces program that is mirrored after the green berets because the marines where loosing there best men to the seals so they started there own program. but, it is new and still in the working out the kinks stage but, in a decade we can compare but, they are still to young to put it in a sf, seal, delta category.

John Lofty Wiseman Part of SAS History - A Legend in his own lifetime

Trooper John Wiseman was born in Britain in 1941John Wiseman was the first to train members of the Green Berets which was at the formation of the USA's Delta Force who are of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) - commonly known as Delta in the U.S. Army, Delta Force by civilians, and Combat Applications Group by the Department of Defense - is a Special Operations Force (SOF) and an integral element of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

Delta Force's primary tasks are counter-terrorism and national intervention operations, although it is an extremely versatile group capable of assuming many missions, including, but not limited to, rescuing hostages, raids, and eliminating covert enemy forces. Delta Force conducts missions similar to those attributed to the British Special Air Service (SAS), on which it was originally modelled

The Seals were originally called FROGMEN in WW2, officially known as UDT-Underwater Demolition Teams. During the Vietnam War they evolved into the Sea-Air-Land (SEAL) teams that we know today.

The Special Forces (Green Beret) originally evolved from from the Office of Strategic Services(OSS) of WW2. During the Vietnam War they received special authorization from President Kennedy to wear the Green Beret.

The Seals are the best for their missions.

The Green Beret are the best for their missions.

And the elite units within the Marine Corps are the best for their missions.

The Marines are just like the other branches in a few ways. They have support personnel in addition to the infantry. The Marine Corps has elite units within itself, just like the army, navy, and air force. MARSOC (announced 1 November, 2005 and activated 24 February, 2006) is part of the Marine Corps, and is controlled by SOCOM.

The USMC, as opposed to whatever was originally posted here, is considered to be an elite force. The US Marines are technically a part of the Navy. However, the Marine Corps does not simply "work for and serve the navy." If anything, the Navy serves the Marines. This statement is not intended to belittle the Navy, it is simply a statement by a veteran Infantry Marine, who lived on multiple US Navy ships and from personal experience can tell you that he in no way was "serving" the navy. More accurately, the Navy was acting as a taxi service for the Marines.

The Marine Corps mission does mention the establishment of shore bases, but it also says "such other duties as the President may direct." To anyone who thinks that the Marines only operate near the shore, tell that to the Marines that marched through Baghdad in 2003. I will tell you right now, I have never worked in the service of another branch as a US Marine.

They do different jobs. They are both equally proficient in land warfare although the SEALs are more jack of all trades and SF(green beret) are more specialised. E.g all seals train in diving and advanced parachuting while in SF different companies specialise in different roles. The SF mission also involes more teaching and training of foreign militia which is why they are required to learn a language and specialise in a patrol skill which they must master to be able to teach it to foreign forces.

Navy Seals, Marine Force Recons, and Green Berets are the best of the Unitied States fighting forces. They are all advanced in their own way. It's just that the Navy Seals and Marine Force Recon missions are different in scope.

I agree, the Green Berets usually train native forces in whatever area thay are in for combat. They are very combat effective but that is not their primary mission.

the green berets by far the marines are on the same level as the US Army rangers and it usually the best of the rangers who make the green berets.. but Marine FORCE RECON is on a further level in which they are even more superior to Navy Seals due to their use in Black "Hush Hush" operations by the CIA

^Im sorry but this is wrong on so many levels. Marines are not on the same level as Rangers, that's just ignorant. The Green Berets and the Seals are very similar. Both Green Berets and Navy SEALs have to undergo very concentrated and demanding training programs to qualify. The physical aspects of both training programs are very similar. The U.S. Navy SEALs and the Green Berets are both Special Forces trained to perform various combat tactics and reconnaissance; the Green Berets officially hold the title of Special Forces.

Unlike Navy SEALs, Green Berets are also trained in languages, diplomacy, politics, culture, disinformation and psychological warfare. While Navy SEALs assist in providing security, The Green Berets also work with foreign governments in areas of operation to advice on Political administration and Economical situations. Most Green Berets are highly educated before entering the program itself; some with even a postgraduate degree.

While both Navy SEALs and Green Berets are trained to perform special reconnaissance, fighting terrorism, unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, information operations, counter-proliferation and combat search and rescue (CSAR); functions like coalition support, humanitarian assistance, peacekeeping and counter Drug operations are usually handled by the Green Berets.

Finally

Force Recon is not superior to the Seals, if that be the case they would have taken out Osama bin Laden instead of the Seals.

Delta Force conducts missions similar to those attributed to the British Special Air Service (SAS), on which it was originally modelled

John Wiseman set a record being the youngest to pass SAS Selection at the very young age of 18 which is no longer possible and now cannot be beat. His service with the Special Air Service Regiment started in 1958 and served with 22 SAS for approx. 26 years. His worldwide service saw activity in every theatre of special forces operation and was

Sergeant Major, B Squadron Sabre Squadron 22 SAS

Sergeant Major 22 SAS Training Wing

Head of Operational Research 22 SAS

He set up the SP Team Counter Hi-Jack now CRW Counter Revolutionary Warfare Wing, The CRW Wing is now nominally made up of the personnel drawn from a single squadron, originally designated "Pagoda", which is relieved every 6 - 9 months. The squadron is split up into two combined troops, "Red" and "Blue", with each troop made up of an assault group and a sniper team. Though the counter-terrorist teams are based at RHQ in Hereford, a specialist eight-man team is based within the outer London region (4, south London border & 4, north London border/Hertfordshire). This team rapidly responds to any situation in London as required.

He help set up the SAS Counter-Terrorist now known as 'The Team' for such teams involved in Operation Nimrod The Iranian Embassy Siege of 1980 was a terrorist siege of the Iranian embassy in London. The siege was ended when British special forces, the Special Air Service (SAS), stormed the building in Operation Nimrod. The incident brought the SAS to the world's attention as the whole episode was played out in the media. Which was undertaken from the SAS barracks Stirling Lines in Hereford

John also ran Survival Training School for 22 SAS at Hereford Stirling Lines for survival skills on land, sea, jungle, desert, arctic, and all manor of wilderness environments. Much of the JWIC Jungle Warfare Instructors Course conducted in Borneo Malaysia is built on the solid foundations laid by John Wiseman and those that followed him. The Jungle Warfare Wing (JWW) is located on the island of Borneo, close to the border with Sarawak (Malaysia) and is supported by the British Army's Brunei Garrison. JWW exists to provide a jungle training facility to meet the requirement to train jungle warfare instructors for the British SAS and other regiments.

John also ran SAS Selection Course which is the hardest course in the world to pass and out of 100 only 5% are consider fit to join the Regiment before they start the real training 'Continuation Training'. The Commanding Officer of 22 SAS is alleged to have said that, "John Lofty Wiseman is an SAS legend" a real accolade from the best.

John Lofty Wiseman has trained survival to many specialists over the years both military and civilian and has undoubtedly saved many lives by his love of all things survival. It is his principles of survival and tools which he introduced that has had the biggest impact on the survival world whose achievements cannot be overestimated!

The three cannot even be compared... They have completely different missions. Never the less, let me VERY briefly compare/contrast them for you.

Marine Corps- Not even on the same level as Special Forces/Navy SEALs. The Marine's are great warriors, but they fight the "conventional" fight.

Although SEALs and Green Berets fight many of the same fights (i.e. counter terrorism/hostage rescue/etc) and are trained in many of the same areas (i.e. small unit tactics/sea, air, and land infiltration, etc), they are different in many ways. Special Forces are not only trained in unconventional warfare, they are also proficient in a foreign language (required in SF training). This being said, SF soldiers are brought into foreign nations to train other Army's to take care of their own. SF soldiers go in, train a foreign army (or guerrilla units), to either take care of their own country or overthrow a foreign government the U.S. doesn't like. For example, the failed Bay of Pigs operation, where U.S. SF soldiers trained Cuban guerrilla's to overthrow Fidel Castro, or the training of Afghan tribes to fight off the Taliban.

SEALs, although they have been known to do the same on occasion, generally do not fight in these "diplomatic" ways like SF do.

Again, VERY general, brief, and incomplete

No. SEALs are the worlds most elite fighting special operations unit on the planet. they fall in line with the tier 1 special operations groups (NSWDG, SAS, 1-SFOD, SASR) ext. the Navy SEALs have the worlds toughest training process. it starts at the Naval special warfare prep school in Great Lakes, where the Navy boot camp is also located. that is 5 weeks of strengthening, conditioning and swimming. the most physically fit and mentally toughest members make it. the ones who don't want it so bad don't. each class is assigned when your sent to the NSWPS. now after that, your sent to B.U.D.S. (Basic Underwater SEAL Training). there are three phases, 24 weeks total. the washout rate at B.U.D.S. is at 85%. so say you have 100 people in the class, 15 will make it from that class, not counting those rolled from later classes, due to injury or failure. after that you have Parachute jump school (3 weeks). Then you have SQT(SEAL Qualification

Training) this is like part 2 of the SEALs training, (26 weeks) you will learn all the advanced training here (well regular for SEALs but advanced for SAS or spetznaz or any other unit) after that you will receive your SEAL trident. then you will be placed on teams and receive more training and specialize in jobs like medic, officer. this process adds up to 2.5 to 3.75 years. only the dedicated survive. HOOYAH! -US NAVY

the green beret(as far as I know) have not done anything worth saying during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. SEALs got bin laden, 1-SFOD got Saddam Hussein and what have the green beret done? so SEALs are better because harder training and more accomplishments.

Who wears the black beret in the army special forces?

either the seals, navy, or marines or military people in Iraq who r geerals or somthin Special Forces wear the green beret. Paratroopers wear the red beret. Until a few years ago US Army Rangers were the only ones allowed to wear the black beret, but in a controversial decision all US Army personnel were given the black beret to improve their morale. To placate the Rangers they were given a beret of a different color, tan or khaki if I am not mistaken.

He was a Green Beret in the US Army.

Are there Green berets in the Marine Corps?

To my knowledge no. The Green Berets are Army Special forces and without enlisting in the army you wouldn't be able to join. A possible exception to this may be in the Delta Force. But the Marines recently made a special forces unit just as good if not better than the Army Special Forces. Keep in mind though that any special forces training is ridiculously hard, usually requires you to have field experience, and often times people come to you instead of vise versa. So its not really like just signing up for the swim team.

What did the SEAL's do in Vietnam?

US Navy SEALs were a smaller force than the US Army's Special Forces (Green Beret); they probably never numbered more than 400 men during the whole war. Nearly 50 SEALs were killed in Vietnam; compared to over 800 Green Berets killed during the war. SEALs were primarily instructors (advisers) and covert operators specializing in blue and brown water (riverine) training and operations. The SEALs paralleled the Army's SF units; minus the "blue & brown" water operations.

Who made soldiers wear berets?

The origins of the Green Beret are in Scotland during the Second World War. US Army Rangers and Office of Strategic Services (OSS) operatives, who underwent training from the Royal Marines were awarded the Green Beret upon completion of the grueling and revolutionary commando course. The beret was not authorized by the US Army among the Rangers and OSS operatives who earned them.
