The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to The Bible. It is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel.

The book was written by many ancient prophets by the spirit of prophecy and revelation. Their words, written on gold plates, were quoted and abridged by a prophet-historian named Mormon. The record gives an account of two great civilizations. One came from Jerusalem in 600 B.C., and afterward separated into two nations, known as the Nephites and the Lamanites. The other came much earlier when the Lord confounded the tongues at the Tower of Babel. This group is known as the Jaredites. After thousands of years, all were destroyed except the Lamanites, and they are the principal ancestors of the American Indians.

The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come.

After Mormon completed his writings, he delivered the account to his son Moroni, who added a few words of his own and hid up the plates in the hill Cumorah.

The Book of Mormon is a book of Scripture used by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called "Mormons") in addition to the Bible. It is a record of the people that were living on the American continent during Biblical times and records God's dealings with those people. It is considered "Another Testament of Jesus Christ". The time period is from the Tower of Babel until about 400 a.d. It was first published in 1830.

Church members believe that the Book of Mormon was translated from ancient metal plates by the prophet Joseph Smith. He obtained the metal plates buried in a hill near his home in New York after an angelic visitor showed him the place in a vision.

If you'd like to read the Book of Mormon for yourself, it is available for free online, or you can receive a free paperback copy from the Church.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (frequently called "Mormons") has, in fact, a canon of four books of scripture. The Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments comprises the writings of the Jews, and the Church uses the King James version as its standard. Joining the Bible is the Book of Mormon, written by ancient Hebrews primarily descended from Joseph who were brought to the American continents hundreds of years before Christ was born. The Church believes the Bible to be the "stick of Judah" spoken of by the prophet Ezekiel and the Book of Mormon to comprise the "stick of Ephraim" (see Ezekiel 37:15-17).

Joining these volumes are the Doctrine and Covenants, revelations received by modern prophets since the earliest days of the Church, and the Pearl of Great Price, comprising other miscellaneous revelations and teachings of the Church. Collectively these volumes are referred to as the "standard works" of the Church.

This is a question that can only be truly answered by the one asking it. As a member of the LDS church, and someone who has read the Book of Mormon, I can tell you that I know, without a doubt, that it is the Word of God. However, I can't tell you it is true, and you can't simply believe me. The only way i was able to find out that it truly is the word of God was by reading from it and asking God in prayer if what I had read was true. The feeling of peace, love, and warmth that God sent to me in response has never left me room to doubt.

If you really want to know for yourself, request a copy of the Book of Mormon (free) on Mormon.org, read from it and then pray to ask God if it is true.

I promise He will answer you.

According to the LDS church the Book of Mormon is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ", written during the same time period as the Bible but in another place. The Book of Mormon was written in the America's by prophets who were sent by God to teach the people there just like the prophets recorded in the Bible were sent by God to instruct the people in Jerusalem and surrounding areas.

Mormon is the man who compiled and abridged the Book of Mormon. He lived in about the 4th century. He gathered the historical and religious texts of his people, and combined them onto one set of metal plates. These plates were translated by Joseph Smith in the late 1820's to become the Book of Mormon. See the related links below to learn more about him or to read the Book of Mormon online. Mormon also has one of the most remarkable life stories you'll ever read about. For example: # At age 10 he was observed as "sober" and "quick to observe". He was singled out as the next great record keeper of the people at that young age, and was told to wait until he was 24, then he should get the existing records of the people and start to record what he had seen. Not a lot of 10 year-olds are singled out like this. # At age 15, he was "visited of the Lord" and "tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus." Not all 15 year-olds can say that. # He tried to preach to his people at that same age but was forbidden by the Lord because the people were so wicked. # At age 16 he was made the leader of the army. # When he was about 18 he led an army of 42,000 soldiers against an army of 44,000 soldiers and won. Not a lot of 18 year-olds can say that. # To read the complete story, read The Book of Mormon inside The Book of Mormon. It starts on about page 469. Hope that's helpful!

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'Mormon' church) use the Holy Bible (King James Version), The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price as scripture. They also consider the messages of their modern prophets to be word of God, these messages are delivered in a semi-annual conference and published in a monthly magazine called The Ensign.

The Book of Mormon is the record of a group of Israelites who left Jerusalem during the ministry of Jeremiah, just before the Babylonian Captivity, in about 600 BC. It chronicles a prophet named Lehi, a contemporary of Jeremiah, and his family as they are lead by God from Jerusalem to the Promised Land in the Americas. Here, his descendents split into a righteous faction (the Nephites) and a wicked faction (the Lamanites). The Book of Mormon is the record of their history and religious prophesies and practices from 600 BC to about 300 AD. The Book of Mormon describes a visit from the resurrected Jesus Christ to these people. It also includes a brief record of a people called Jaredites, who left the Old World at the time of the Tower of Babel.

Mormons believe that the Book of Mormon is 'Another Testament of Jesus Christ', to be used alongside the Old and New Testaments in the Holy Bible as a completion of God's word to mankind.

The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture used by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) and other groups within the Mormonism Movement. The Book of Mormon is called "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" and is meant to be used alongside the Bible as a second witness of the divine mission of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Believers claim it is a fulfillment of the Biblical law that states that "in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established" (Deuteronomy 19:15; Matthew 18:16; 2 Corinthians 13:1) as well as several Biblical prophesies. (Ezekiel 37:15-19; Isaiah 29, etc)

The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, is a collection of writings from several ancient religious and political leaders. The Book of Mormon, however, is a record of God's dealings with His people who lived in the American continents rather than in the old world/Middle East area. It tells the story of several groups of righteous Israelites who escaped such events as the Babylonian Captivity and were lead by God to a new land. It goes on to record the major political and religious events that take place, including a visit of the resurrected Jesus Christ shortly after the crucifixion. (hence the words of Jesus found in John 10:16)

The Book of Mormon was published by Joseph Smith, Jr in 1830. He claimed to have been led by an angel to the spot where an ancient record, inscribed on gold-colored metal plates, was buried. He translated this record by the power of God, with the assistance of the Urim and Thummim and a handful of scribes. It is now published in over 100 languages and used as a book of scripture by tens of millions across several denominations and sects.

The Book of Mormon serves many purposes. First and foremost, as stated on the cover of most modern editions, it's purpose is to be "Another Testament of Jesus Christ". Testament means testimony or witness - the purpose of the Book of Mormon is to add a second voice to the Biblical message of salvation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The title page of the Book of Mormon expands on that idea, and says that the book's purpose is:"To show the remnant of the House of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever - and also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE ETERNAL GOD, manifesting himself unto all nations."

Another purpose of the Book of Mormon is to serve as a tangible witness of the divine calling of Joseph Smith as a prophet or messenger of God. If one is convinced that the Book of Mormon contains the word of God, then Joseph Smith (it's translator) must also be a messenger of God, and thus his other teachings should be taken seriously.

A final purpose of the Book of Mormon (at least to it's believers) is to substantiate or "prove" the Bible by fulfilling some Biblical prophesies. Mormons believe that Ezekiel 37:15-19 talks about the Bible (the stick of Judah) and the Book of Mormon (the stick of Ephraim or Joseph) coming together as one witness. John 10:16 has Jesus telling his followers that he has "other sheep" in a different fold. Mormons believe these "other sheep" are the believers recorded in the Book of Mormon, whom Jesus visited after his resurrection. Isaiah 29:4 is thought to be a message to the Book of Mormon peoples, saying that their record would come from the ground and have a familiar sound. Isaiah 29:11-12 talks about an event with a professor named Charles Anthon saying he cannot read a sealed book.

Is Warren a Mormon?

Yes and no. Warren Jeffs is is a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint (FLDS) which does regard the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God, so he is a Mormon. However, he is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) which is (by far) the largest church which regards the Book of Mormon to be the Word of God, so he is unlike any Mormon you are likely to meet.
