cell was discovered by Robert hooke in 1665.As he was observing a piece of cork under the microscope he noticed small chambers like honey comb in them.those chambers were called cells by ROBERT BROWN.Later another scientist ROBERT BROWN discovered the nucleus in the cell of orchid.

Rutherford and his gold foil experiment are given the credit for this. When the beta particles bounced off the gold foil more than even the largest margin of error based on current atomic knowledge, Rutherford figured that there was something material in the center repelling the heavy particles.

In about 1869 a phospohrus containing substance was found in the nucleus and called nuclein by Johann Friedrich Miescher.
