Why was Achilles fighting Hector?

To put it in the simplest terms, they were simply two warriors in opposing armies who met up and did what came naturally to them as warriors: they fought. However, Achilles had a grudge against Hector, since the latter killed the former's cousin, Patroclus. The fight was short, and after Achilles defeated Hector by breaking his neck, proceeded to drag his corpse around the battlefield before letting the Trojans reclaim his body. Interestingly, Achilles was killed a short time later by Paris (Hector's brother), who shot him in the ankle with an arrow (thus giving the Achilles tendon its name).

What is Achilles' role in the Illiad?

Achilles plays a great role in the Trojan war. When Agamemnon steals the beautiful captive Briseis away from Achilles,Achilles refuses to take part in the war, where after the Greeks suffer one loss after another. But when his best friend Patroclus is killed by Trojan Hector,Achilles emerges vengeful.Thetis has an armor forged for Achilles by the great god Hephaestus.Achilles kills Hector and a great number of other Trojans.Ajax is considered to be the bravest hero, second only to Achilles. In the Trojan war he single-handedly turns back a Trojan counterattack that threatens to set the fleet on fire.ajax and diomedes are considered the second best Greeks next to Achilles, however both of these heroes are more noble, brave and respectful than Achilles. ajax fights hector to duel early in the iliad, and through out the book both heroes try to kill each, both are unsuccesful, though on occassions both heroes get the upper hand on one another, hector forces ajax to retreat several times and also breaks ajax's spear. however ajax also forces hector to retreat on one occasion when he throws a huge boulder at hector. diomedes is also a great fighter but not as good in my opinion as ajax or hector, he always needs the help of odyesseus and like wise odyesseus always needs diomedes's help. ajax and hector fight alone, relying on their own skill. Achilles i would like to point out is not brave, he doesnt fight for most of the iliad, and has no fear of death, that by definition does not define a hero, he doesnt care about anyone or anything expect his feelings and perhaps patroclus.

What is the name of the poem with features and characters like Achilles Paris and Helen of troy?

The Iliad, which tells of the beginning and of the Trojan War. The accompanying epic is the Odyssey, which tells of Odysseus' journey home to Athens after the war.

Why does Achilles withdraw from the battle?

He withdrew because King Agamemnon confiscated his war prize Briseis to replace one that he, Agamemnon, had been obliged to return. Achilles was insulted by the demand, and claimed that he and his men were doing the work, but the king was reaping the rewards. He refused to fight even if he were apologized to later.

Where is Achilles' tomb?

Achilles was cremated and his ashes were entombed with those of his best friend, Patroclus. Since they died at Troy, they would have been interred nearby, and during the time of Alexander the Great, (which, mind you was 800 years later), the mound of Kesik Tepe was regarded by many to be the tomb of Achilles and Patroclus. However, there was no actual evidence of this then or now. It's important to remember that the events of the Trojan War were recounted some 400 years after they occurred, and while Achilles could very well have been a real person, much of what we "know" about him is mythic, meaning that the Achilles we know may not have existed at all. His name, like those of the gods, has an etymological structure that mirrors his role in the Trojan War. His name means "the grief of the people" and as King Myrmidons, and central figure of the Iliad (which is generally regarded as a sad tale), that makes sense, grief and glory being the two major themes of the Iliad. -Indiriel ________________ His Tomb Has Not Been Found Yet But Is Rumored To Be In Osmuncik District Of Corum In Turkey (Modern Day Troy). Alexander The Great Is A Descendent Of Achilles And Opened His Tomb Many Years Ago.

Achilles was a hero in Ancient Greek mythology. His mother, the nymph Thetis, attempted to make Achilles immortal by dipping him into the river Styx. She held him by the ankles, so they did not receive invulnerability from the river. Achilles was killed because Paris, in the Trojan War, shot him with an arrow in Achilles' heel - Achilles' one weak spot. This is why the term "achilles heel" became an idiom for a person's one weakness.

Hector married a woman called andromache and together they had a child called scamandrius. He was nicknamed astyanax by the people of troy, meaning "lord of the city" as his father was a Trojan hero. Astyanax was killed during the Trojan war by the son of Achilles, neoptolemus, who threw him from a wall when he was an infant. This was done for 2 reasons. 1. To prevent astyanax avenging the death of Hector (who was killed by Achilles) 2. To prevent astyanax becoming king of troy
